Week 33 - Strays and pets

Pets are all the rage in Sim Nation, and of course it's only to be expected that Niua Simoa will at some point follow the trend. (Although Niua Simoa does seem to follow trends at a respectful distance...)

Robert-Michel Gao was the first one to import a white Persian cat called Snowball. It might be that he broke a few import regulations when he did this... In any case, he appears to have paid the appropriate fines to the appropriate officials (in other words, he probably bribed somebody in the Royal family...) and he was allowed to keep the cat.

Of course this was not the end of the affair. Gretchen Ngatea (nee Schiffer) had been trying for years to import a Pointer bred by her German relatives, but was told that it was not possible under the current law.
Now, of course, she was determined to take steps. If Gao could have a cat, why couldn't she have a dog?

So Gretchen filed a formal complaint at City Hall, specifically, with Mrs. Ling. And this lady very cleverly used one of her underlings, Hina Chin, to gain the support of Tane Palefau.
Tane soon realised that there was bribery involved, and the position of the royal family could be compromised if the law wasn't changed. (Darn these 'modern' ladies with their meddling!)

All in all, it apparently became quite a political brouhaha over at the palace, and the end result of it all was that the import restrictions were toned down quite a bit.

And so the Ngatea family finally got their dog.

and some fleas...

And by the way, yes, the Ngateas have a new house. After the fire a few weeks ago they decided to move out.

Marie-France Mau kindly donated some of her prime vegetables so Gretchen could re-start her garden, and Takai put off his retirement yet again because they really need the money to buy better furniture. Rosa got a part-time job at the spa to help out, but Leonard is having too much trouble keeping up with his school work...

There was a brief moment between legislatures that the raccoons came back, but eventually they were all caught and sold to a zoo somewhere.

The new legislation also takes care of strays. Much to the relief of anyone who values their morning paper!

(Thank heavens for Twallan's Register - it does everything all my little mods do for strays, NPCs and role Sims - and more!)

In the meantime Rangi Palefau started school. His teacher (Margo Tumeke) was pleasantly surprised by him - she is not very fond of Claudine Palefau, and expected her son to be quite a bit more... evil, maybe? Or at least devious. Rangi, however, seems to be a good boy - if a trifle clumsy.

Speaking of Margo, she seems to have really kicked her nectar habit. She enjoys her teaching job, and she has even been talking of having another baby. Kurt is not quite certain he actually wants a second child - he remembers the problems they had with Celestine when she was younger, when Margo drank all day because, as she said, she couldn't stand "that infernal noise" of the baby crying... It's a miracle Celestine even managed to age up to a normal toddler at all.
Still, it would be nice to have another baby. A son this time, maybe?

Kurt and his parents are still not on speaking terms. The fact that Sifoua complained to school headmaster Tim Chin about her son Ata being in 'that woman's class' didn't help matters much either.
Ata, in the meantime, really likes his teacher/sister-in-law, but he tries not to let his mother see it. Fonzell, as always, agrees with Sifoua. He's learned over the years that this is the only way to have peace in the house...

Crystal Ling was bitten by Louise Williams' old horse Breezer the other day, which caused quite a commotion - what with Crystal threatening to sue the Williams family, have Breezer put down and Louise thrown off the island...
In the end she calmed down, but this incident was the last straw for Marley Williams and his neighbours. They all worked together to drag Louise's gypsy wagon to a remote spot outside the town - where there's room for her horse to graze and no neighbours to bite.

Aimee Williams is heard to observe that she's happy to have 'that old nag' out of her vegetable garden... (We assume she means the horse...)
