Relatives...

I found Gretchen Schiffer - Fonzell's sister - on the Exchange, and decided to put her in the game, too.
I also found different versions of Sims already in the save game, and decided that I could make some relatives for other Sims myself.
* * *

So first of all, I made a brother for Totara Palefau (nee Ngatea). I named him Takai Ngatea.

Takai and Totara came to the island when their father took a job for King Henry I. The rest of the family moved on to another island a few years later, but by that time Totara had married Tane Palefau.
Takai had made a lot of friends in school on Niua Simoa, so he decided to stay with his sister.

As a new member of the Palefau clan, Totara immediately had a lot of respect from the local population, but Takai was a bit of an outsider.

He hoped that if he married a local girl, he would fit in a bit better. But instead, he met, fell in love with, and married Gretchen Schiffer - even more of an outsider than he was. (She was visiting her brother Fonzell when they met.)

Gretchen is a vegetarian, which isn't an easy lifestyle to maintain on this island - not that there aren't any vegetables, but the locals will never understand why you do not accept that (expensive) meat they offer you, and it's quite easy to offend people that way...

However, Gretchen and Takai are very happy together. They still live in the same small house that they bought when they got married - only they've made it quite a bit larger over the years.

They have two teenagers. Leonard, who looks like a pale copy of his father, is a bit of a drifter. Part of him would like to be European, but he soon discovered that when he is with his mother's German relatives, an equally large part of him wants to go back to the Pasimfic. He's a restless soul...

Rosa, on the other hand, feels one hundred percent Simoan.

She might not look Simoan, with those blue/grey eyes and strawberry blonde hair, but all she wants is to live out her life on the island. (Preferably with Remy Mau - if Remy would only notice her...)

* * *

I also found an old version of Esete, and since she is no longer in the game, I decided I would give her a relative, too - using this version of her as a base. In her case, a young aunt (quite near her own age) called Mahuika Puriri.

Mahuika came to the island with her two children when they were still in school. Since her parents died, she'd been missing her niece Eseta, and she felt that Niua Simoa was a nice place for her children to grow up.

Unfortunately, she died in a fire before her children had grown up. Salesi was away at university in Sim Nation, so he was not able to take charge of a younger sister. Esete was still alive at the time, but she didn't want to take Salote into her household either - much to the disgust of many islanders, who felt that you can't turn your back on your family.

In the end, Salote was sent to her Puriri relatives in Sim Nation.

This is Mahuika's ghost, who haunts the local graveyard.

A few years ago, Salote came back to the island, with her small daughter. She claims to be divorced, and uses her ex-husband's last name of Tau.

However, the stories she tells of Simon Tau are conflicting and confusing, and people are beginning to wonder whether he even exists. In fact, people are beginning to whisper that Salote herself probably doesn't even know who Maise's father is...

* * *

Sifoua Kumala (now Schiffer) has a younger sister, and a much younger brother. Her sister Arama married Salesi Puriri after he got back from university. They bought the larger fale next to the Mau house, and have one son called Nasik.

Arama doesn't care for her appearance much, nor does she care for luxury. She's happy living in a traditional home, and she's proud of her wrinkles - she says they give her face character.
Sifoua is very annoyed by this attitude. Every time people exclaim in surprise to hear that Arama is the younger of the sisers, she feels her true age is exposed, and she doesn't like that one bit.

Arama does keep in shape, and goes jogging a lot. All the pictures I have of her are in her athletics outfit...

This is Salesi, also in athletic outfit, talking to Tim Chin in the park.

And this is Nasik, coming home from school with Mei Mau.

Salesi is quite liberal for an islander, but not liberal enough to approve of the morals and lifestyle of his younger sister. He wishes he could take little Maise out of that household, but Arama isn't keen on adding a child to their family - especially not one with such a mother and an unknown father...

Also, their house isn't really large enough.

Of course she can't say so out loud, so she makes up excuses for not taking in her niece. However, her insistence that 'a child should be with her mother' sounds quite hollow, considering her own opinion of her sister-in-law.

* * *

When Sifoua and Arama were teenagers, they unexpectedly had a little brother. Of course their parents were overjoyed - after all, girls 'don't count' for traditional families, and sons are to be cherished. Or, in Fepiku's case, spoiled rotten.

It's surprising he hasn't turned out much worse, considering the fact that neither his parents nor his sisters could ever say 'no' to any of his wishes. When he finally bought his own house, he chose the little fale on the other end of the Mau residence, so he could remain near his sister (and drop by around dinner time almost every night...)

Fepiku hasn't married yet. He prefers to wait a while, check out the local girls, visit some foreign countries to check out the girls there... In fact, with Henry II out of commission, now that he's about to be married, Fepiku is quite a good candidate for the next town Cassanova.

* * *

And while I was playing in CAS, I discovered that Margo Tumeke actually doesn't look half bad as a man. So I decided to give her a brother.

This is Daniel Tumeke. He's a doctor, and he came to the island to visit his sister, but then decided to stay for a while and see whether he could help setting up some kind of clinic.

Daniel lives in a very small house near the hospital.

* * *

Remember Josefa Ota Ika? Who took his wife's last name, hoping that people would forget from what family he came?

Well, Josefa succeeded admirably. He's been Josefa Mau for so long now, that most people had to think hard to remember what his original name was. Until last year, when his no-good brother returned to the island.

Unfortunately, Topou Ota Ika is almost the spitting image of his brother - except for the bad haircut and the loud clothes, that is.
Topou is the greatest mooch in town, and owes everybody money. Besides, his small fale is usually full of electronics and other expensive equipment... You could say they 'fell off the back of a truck' - but the problem is, that there aren't any trucks on the island. So where does he get all that stuff?

* * *

Well, that's the island population so far. I'm a rotation type player, and I play with an extremely long lifespan - so there is plenty of time to explore everybody's life from now on...
