What was supposed to be the great finale of the celebrations surrounding the royal wedding on Niua Simoa almost ended in a disaster last night.
As we all know, the bride, Ms Sima Zhi, is the daughter of a very rich Chinese industrial. Her father is unfortunately too old to travel, but he did give her a very precious gift of the best fireworks his factories have to offer.
Everyone in town came to watch, including even the smallest children.
They did light a few smaller fireworks for the younger kids, thinking that they would be off to bed before the big event. Most of them weren't, though!!
The big firework display had to wait until it was dark, of course.
Mr Zepher Stevenson took it upon himself to ignite these fireworks at the end of the celebrations. All appeared to be going very well, and everyone was enjoying the display.
The first few fireworks went off without any problems, and they were beautiful - especially from the air. (Yes, we do have a correspondent with a helicopter - the press wasn't invited, but we go to great lengths to bring you the news anyway!)
After the first five or six rockets, apparently somebody got careless.
Ms Ariifano Karakia seemed to rush right into the fire - nobody knows what she planned to do, but it nearly cost her her life:
Fortunately Mr Fonzell Schiffer had the presence of mind to grab a fire extinguisher, and the fire was put out before even the fire brigade arrived on the scene.
Mrs Sisana Karakia seems to have passed out at the sight of her mother-in-law burning, but Mr Schiffer actually appears to have enjoyed the entire incident.
He certainly justified his earlier 'hero pose'. He saved the day!
We appologise for the quality of the photographs, but it was, as we said, very late at night - the only right time for fireworks.

Ariifano Karakia lives to see another day. :P And another. And another.
Yes, it would have been something of a shock if she had died this way... :D
